President Emmerson Mnangagwa says he will not seek a third term but instead new party leadership will be elected at the next ZanuPF Congress. Speaking at the commissioning of the Mutare Teachers College beverages plant in Mutare on 4 July 2024, the President, a constitutionalist and lawyer said he will stick to the party constitution.
This is the second time the President has spoken about his future political plans. He told a local magazine that he will stick to the party constitution which insists on two Presidential terms.
The President said it will be important that those that take leaderships positions in the party at every level must be genuine cadres motivated to protect the legacy of the liberation struggle and the emancipation of the indigenous people of this country. He condemned the use of money in seeking leadership positions.
